VMware
VMware is a leading provider of virtualization and cloud computing software, now owned by Broadcom, vCenter (management), and various cloud and networking solutions. VMware’s acquisition by Broadcom led to significant changes in licensing, consolidating product lines into subscription-based bundles.
Key Products
- vSphere/vESXi: The industry-standard hypervisor for server virtualization
- vCenter Server: Centralized management of ESXi hosts and VMs
- vSAN: Software-defined storage
- NSX: Software-defined networking
- Tanzu: Kubernetes and application platform
- Workspace ONE: End-user computing and mobility
Licensing
VMware products are commercial, proprietary software. Broadcom restructured VMware’s licensing into subscription-based bundles (vCloud Suite, Infrastructure Suite) after the acquisition. Perpetual licenses were discontinued.
