VMware is a leading provider of virtualization and cloud computing software, now owned by Broadcom, vCenter (management), and various cloud and networking solutions. VMware’s acquisition by Broadcom led to significant changes in licensing, consolidating product lines into subscription-based bundles.

Licensing

VMware products are commercial, proprietary software. Broadcom restructured VMware’s licensing into subscription-based bundles (vCloud Suite, Infrastructure Suite) after the acquisition. Perpetual licenses were discontinued.
