How I Used Hermes-Agent to Rebuild w3architect.com
Site History
The domain and website have existed since the 2000s.
You can find traces of it as far back on archive.org from March 2001.
The site has gone through several iterations, each time exploring new technologies, with the main constraint of being able to manage a multilingual website (French/English).
The first version was a purely static site, generated by PERL scripts I had developed myself.
Second version of the site in 2003 using the EzPublish CMS
eZ Publish was a PHP-based CMS developed by the Norwegian company eZ Systems AS.
Third version of the site in 2006 using Liferay
Liferay Portal was originally created in the 2000s to provide an enterprise portal service targeted at non-profit organizations.
It was a fairly heavy Java application (requiring a Java application server). The features were interesting, but the updates proved complex, and at some point I stopped performing those upgrades and took the site offline.
New Version
In 2026, I decided to give this site new life.
Creating a website was a good practical exercise for me to test the capabilities of using an AI Agent for various tasks:
- defining the site structure
- creating templates
- optimization (SEO)
- content translation (French / English)
- automated wiki management
